Kindergarten in Brief
Our Kindergarten program features both a teacher and a full-time aide who work together to provide a nuturing learning environment. They are assited by specialist teachers for music, science, library and physical education.
Language Arts
- Our Language Arts program includes phonics, formal manuscript instruction, and monthly language journals
- We feature guest storytelling by parents and community members
Science and Library
- We have a K-3 Science Teacher who brings theme-related, hands-on science activities into the Kindergarten classroom one day a week
- The Kindergartners spend a half hour once a week in the library with the school librarian learning to use the library and to develop an appreciation for books.
Math and Religion
- Hands on experiences, the use of supplemental manipulatives, and real world problem solving build a strong foundation in mathematics.
- Interactive Religion units and monthly Liturgies weave Christian beliefs and values into our student's daily lives
Music, Art, and Social Studies
- Art is integrated into every aspect of the Kindergarten curriculum
- A Music Specialist teacher creatively and joyfully brings music to the Kindergartners twice a week
- The Social Studies curriculum revolves around community, leaders and historical events
Other Programs
- Our Buddy program pairs up Kindergarteners with 7th grade "buddies" who meet monthly for academic and social projects
- Kindergarteners also attend Church services with their buddies.
- Physical Education is offered 3 times a week for 40 minutes by a P.E. specialist teacher who works on developing gross and fine motor skills and general coordination
- Good sportsmanship, turn taking, and following directions are emphasized
Kinder Care Program
- Kinder Care (a play-based program held in the Kindergarten classroom) is offered daily for Kindergarten students until 3:10
- Extended Care is offered for the entire school beginning at 3:10 and ending at 6:00 (Extended Care includes snack-time, homework-time, craft activities, gross motor outdoor play, and indoor quiet play)
- Both programs are offered at a cost of $5.00/hour
